Scorfuma Convention AU!

So, we’ve all read and enjoyed coffee shop AUs, flower shop AUs, tattoo parlor AUs — what about a convention AU?
Perfuma has a booth at the Princess Prom Con where she’s selling essential oils, meditation zines, and gardening zines. She’s used to farmers’ markets and craft fairs and a little nervous about adapting her usual techniques to a big convention. Right next to her is a booth for Dryl, a robotics, technology, and puzzle business run by the elusive inventor Entrapta. Accompanying Entrapta are her social media manager Horace Rong, his twin brother Dak, and her friend Scorpia. Entrapta is easily overstimulated, so she’s arranged for her friends to table for her. For the first half of the day, Scorpia is in charge. As part of her agreement with Entrapta, there’s a small selection of Scorpia’s homemade herbal teas out on the table too.
(When I do AUs, I always feel the need to either change characters’ names or explain them. Scorpia and Entrapta are online handles that became chosen names. Perfuma is the name that Perfuma chose when she transitioned, based on advice from hippie friends.)
While they’re setting up their booths, Perfuma trades a zine for some tea. Scorpia reads the zine immediately and is absolutely fascinated. It’s her first time learning about meditation and she’s fallen in love. She asks all kinds of questions, while a flattered Perfuma attempts to help her. Meanwhile, Perfuma’s impressed by the quality of Scorpia’s herbs and quizzes her about her techniques, scribbling down notes.
After getting her booth set up, Perfuma notices that Scorpia and Entrapta have no idea how to make their table look nice. She’s great at aesthetics, so she steps in and helps them out. Entrapta just shrugs and lets her, but Scorpia thinks it’s just about the sweetest thing Perfuma could do. (At this point, Entrapta realizes that Scorpia has a crush.)
When the con starts, Entrapta heads back to her hotel to rest up for the afternoon, leaving Scorpia in charge of the booth. With their flashy tech, Dryl attracts ten times as many customers as Perfuma’s humble business. Perfuma is jealous until she realizes how much Scorpia is struggling to keep up with the rush. Born without hands, she changed prosthetics recently and isn’t used to the new ones yet, so she keeps dropping things. On top of that, she’s nervous and awkward around customers. Perfuma steps in to help, and in return, Scorpia enthusiastically promotes Perfuma’s booth. Because of this (and because she failed to account for the amount of foot traffic at the convention), Perfuma gets way more business than she expected and ends up selling out of her entire stock early. When the twins, Entrapta’s other best friends, show up at noon to relieve Scorpia, Scorpia and Perfuma end up wandering the convention together.
After getting some lunch, they do the rounds of the exhibitor hall. Scorpia gets excited by a booth selling gothic Lolita clothes, but worries that she looks silly, since she’s tall, muscular, and has an undercut. Perfuma persuades her that she looks awesome and buoyed by the encouragement, Scorpia ends up buying a dress. At other booths, they buy earrings, makeup, and Roaring Twenties-style eveningwear. Scorpia’s self-conscious about being a femme, but she’s been coming out of her shell since emerging from a toxic relationship. Perfuma’s happy to boost her confidence, because getting all girly with her friends is super gender-affirming for her.
Perfuma runs into her favorite cosplayer, Adora, and is incredibly happy to get a photo with her. When Perfuma came out, Adora, who’s also trans, was a big inspiration to her. While Perfuma fangirls over Adora, she’s shocked to discover that Scorpia and Adora already know each other — Adora’s actually dating Scorpia’s ex, Catherine. Perfuma expects this to be awkward, but it turns out that Scorpia’s just happy for Cat.
Scorpia and Perfuma circle back to the Dryl booth, where Entrapta is hanging out with the twins. They’re a pretty good team: Horace talks to customers, while Dak handles the money. Entrapta wants to go to a cosplay weapons workshop led by Adora’s friend Bow, and Perfuma and Scorpia end up tagging along. (“Bow” is a nickname based on his popular blog, You Have My Bow.) Perfuma, a pacifist, is slightly uncomfortable, but hanging out with Adora makes up for it; meanwhile, Scorpia is having a good time watching Entrapta in her element.
After the workshop, Scorpia can tell that Perfuma’s getting tired, so she gets her some food at a nearby vegan restaurant. Perfuma hasn’t been looked after in a while, so this gesture means a lot to her. They have a cute first-date-ish conversation and Perfuma recharges for a bit. Then, they head back to the convention, just in time for the afterparty, where Perfuma encourages Scorpia to sing karaoke.
I’m probably not going to write this fic, but if anyone wants to, feel free. My convention experience is limited, so feel free to leave concrit on that subject, or about anything else. Comments are welcome, even if we’ve never talked before.
