Dear Unsent Letters Creator
Mar. 9th, 2024 11:53 amHi, Unsent Letters Creator! Thank you so much for creating for me. I'm sure I'll be happy with whatever you make.
My requests are:
Treats are welcome and appreciated. My AO3 preferences are set to allow gifted works.
Here's a list of some things that I really like reading about, in case you want to use it for inspiration. For some tropes that might be confusing, I've linked examples from my AO3 bookmarks.
Some common DNWs that I'm okay with for this exchange are:
Here's a list of things that I don't want for any request. Some requests have additional Do Not Wants that are listed in my signup.
Fandom: Enchanted Forest
Epistolary Format: Journals and Diaries Epistolary, Format: Letters/Emails/Audio or Video Message Transcripts
Relationship: Cimorene/Morwen
Do not want (DNW):
I'd love to see some magic! The academics of how magic works in the Enchanted Forest Chronicles is really interesting to me.
Established Cimorene/Morwen is fine, but if you're up for it, I'd really love it if they got closer & caught feelings while Cimorene was pregnant (midwife!Morwen for the win!), or while they were caring for Daystar together, or while they were separated. Cimorene is usually not a very vulnerable character, so when she's sleep-deprived, grieving Mendanbar, struggling through the pain and fatigue of pregnancy and childbirth, etc, that might be the first time there's real emotional intimacy between her and Morwen, or the first time she's really relying on Morwen.
I'm okay with Cimorene and/or Morwen being good at parenting, or not, as you choose. I don't think Cimorene is a very good parent in canon.
For Cimorene's marriage, I generally interpret it as a political arrangement plus a coparenting arrangement (ie, she married him because he needed someone sensible in the castle and she wanted to be queen, and they also agreed to raise a child together because Mendanbar needed an heir and one or both of them genuinely wanted to be a parent). But if you want to write something else, like polyamory, or infidelity, or Cimorene never marrying Mendanbar, or Cimorene breaking up with Mendanbar, or Cimorene and Morwen getting together only when Mendanbar is out of the picture, that's fine. AUs where Cimorene keeps living with dragons are always fun, too!
About the age difference between Cimorene and Morwen: If you want to handwave it, or age Cimorene up, or age Morwen down, that's fine. It's also fine if you want to keep the canon age difference, as long as Morwen only becomes interested in Cimorene as a romantic/sexual partner when Cimorene is an adult, which by my estimate, is sometime around Calling On Dragons.
I'd prefer a happy ending where they're together, but I'm fine with an open ending or unhappy ending or an ending where they're not together.
Fandom: Temeraire
Relationship: William Laurence & Jane Roland
Epistolary Format: Letters/Emails/Audio or Video Message Transcripts, Epistolary Format: Texts and Social Media
Do not want (DNW):
Opt-ins:
Prompts:
I really liked Laurence and Roland's correspondence when it appeared in the book (particularly Jane Roland's frank style vs Laurence's very polite, formal way of writing) and I honestly just want more of that. Updating each other on how Emily and the dragons and the other captains and Tharkay are doing, giving advice, commiserating about politics, exchanging gossip, Roland's evolving friendship with Lady Allendale, Emily being mistaken for Laurence's naturalborn child...
My favorite part of canon is affection between the dragons and their captains, so I'd love it if you worked that in.
I'd love a fic set during canon or post-canon. Pre-canon would be fun too, if you want to explore how they might have met/corresponded before Temeraire! I'd also be cool with canon divergence, if you're interested in that. For instance, what if Roland committed treason with Laurence/instead of Laurence? Setting change AUs are fine, but I really really like the canon writing style, so if you can keep that as close as possible, that would be lovely. I've been eagerly following the Temeraire Twitter AU (link goes to a masterpost that is out of date already, but should give you the gist), and I like how it keeps Laurence's writing style the same. I love the idea of Roland and Laurence having to maintain a social media presence for the sake of their public reputations. I'd also love to see what their social media strategy would look like immediately post-treason, especially since in canon, Roland publicly defended Laurence while publicly severing ties with him.
I like AUs where canon human characters are dragons, and vice versa, but I'd prefer if the characters' countries of origin stayed the same when their species was changed (ie, human!Temeraire is still Chinese, dragon!Laurence is still British).
I'd prefer a happy ending.
I interpret Laurence and Jane Roland as aromantic people in a casual sexual relationship. You can go with that, or not, as long as you don't violate my DNWs (listed above).
Fandom: The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl
Epistolary Format: Journals and Diaries, Epistolary Format: Letters/Emails/Audio or Video Message Transcripts, Epistolary Format: Texts and Social Media
Relationship: Doreen Green/Nancy Whitehead
Do not want (DNW):
Opt-ins:
Prompts:
My favorite issue is issue #31 (collected in Volume 8, My Best Squirrel's Friend), which has incredibly romantic undertones in its depiction of Doreen's relationship with Nancy. So I'd absolutely love a fic about that/set during that. Maybe we get to see the love letters or emotional diary entries they wrote during the life they lived out in the space of a weekend, or the log entries they wrote when they were working on reentering normal time. Do young!Doreen and Nancy find the letters after the weekend is over, or are they forever forgotten?
My second favorite issue is issue #42 (collected in Volume 11, Call Your Squirrelfriends), which also features old!Doreen and Nancy. I'd love a glimpse into the utopia that we briefly saw at the end of the issue - Doreen and Nancy's domestic life, or their work, or some combination.
Regardless of setting, I'd really like to see Doreen (and Mew) emotionally supporting Nancy. It's all too common for the needs of Black women to be ignored, even in fanfic.
The Twitter recaps in canon were really funny! I'd honestly love a fic that's just a pastiche of canon and starts out with the characters' Twitter shenanigans, like this excellent fic.
Chatfic would be super fun! Do Ken, Tomas, Mary, Brain-Drain, Nancy, Doreen, and Tippy-Toe have a group chat that they use to coordinate super-heroic activities, and possibly also study sessions? (Can squirrels even use phones?) Does Loki have Nancy's phone number? Are there lots of puns?
I'd love to see what would happen if some of the characters had a YouTube channel. Maybe a lifestyle channel, or knitting, or coding, or fish/squirrel/cat facts? So many possibilities!
I'd love to see some of Nancy's fanfic.
I'd love it if animals played a role in the narrative (especially cats; Mew is so cute!).
Fandom: She-Ra and the Princesses of Power
Epistolary Format: Letters/Emails/Audio or Video Message Transcripts
Relationship: Entrapta & Scorpia (She-Ra), Double Trouble & Entrapta (She-Ra), Lonnie/Perfuma/Scorpia (She-Ra), Frosta & Any (She-Ra), Entrapta & None (She-Ra), Mara & Any (She-Ra)
Do not want (DNW):
(About the age thing: A lot of She-Ra characters (for example: Sea Hawk, Mermista, Scorpia, Double Trouble, Netossa, Spinnerella) have somewhat ambiguous ages, so just go with whatever works for your story.)
Opt-ins:
Note: Hordak isn't really my thing, but I can't stop you from writing about him if you want to.
Prompts:
Scorpia & Scorpia's Parents: I didn't actually formally request this because it didn't show up in the dropdown, but I am the nominator and it's absolutely my favorite thing in the tagset. Some ideas:
Scorpia's parents are typically written as two women, and I love that, but I'd be absolutely over the moon if you wrote one/both as nonbinary.
Entrapta & None; Entrapta & Double Trouble: Entrapta is an embodiment of autistic joy. I'd love to see some of her scientific work, or her daily life. I also think it would be really fun if she had a YouTube channel, or if she appeared on Double Trouble's YouTube channel!
Entrapta & Scorpia: This is my favorite friendship in the entire show. Some ideas:
For fluff, maybe they're penpals, or they leave each other little notes?
For angst, maybe unsent letters from when Entrapta was on Beast Island? A canon divergence AU where Scorpia rescued Entrapta from Beast Island would be amazing. Maybe Catra discovered Scorpia's deception and sent her to Beast Island too, or Scorpia went directly to Beast Island instead of seeking help from Bright Moon, or Scorpia joined Adora and Bow's rescue mission.
I'd love to see something exploring Scorpia's backstory - maybe Entrapta helps Scorpia find her family, or information about her kingdom.
Lonnie/Perfuma/Scorpia: I think this polyam ship has a lot of potential. Some ideas:
In canonverse, I'd love to see their letters after the war as they reconcile their differences. Scorpia and Lonnie made very different decisions about taking sides during the war, and about how to deal with Catra, but we saw from their last scene together that they still care about and support each other. They also have very different relationships to the Fright Zone - to Scorpia, it's her lost kingdom, but to Lonnie, it's just the place where she grew up. Perfuma and Lonnie are very different people and only ever met in battle - what would it look like if they got to know each other, even if it was just to please Scorpia?
For a modern AU, I'd love to see how these three very different people ended up in a relationship.
For a canon divergence AU, I'd love to see how they'd get to know each other in a diplomatic context if Scorpia stayed a princess. Maybe Hordak crash-landed in Plumeria or Bright Moon or Dryl instead of Scorpia's kingdom, or Hordak never arrived at all, or the first Princess Alliance successfully defeated him.
Frosta & Any: Frosta's a competent ruler in her own right, but she also likes getting to be a kid sometimes. I'd love to see her keeping in contact with other characters - Perfuma and Scorpia write her holiday letters as a couple, or she's penpals with Glimmer, or Entrapta sends her memes.
Mara & Any: There are a lot of possibilities here! There's the messages she leaves for Adora, and there's the communications she sends to characters like Serenity, and there's her relationship with Light Hope, and her relationship with Madame Razz.
Fandom: InCryptid
Epistolary Format: Journals and Diaries, Epistolary Format: Letters/Emails/Audio or Video Message Transcripts
Relationship: James & Sally, Alice/Thomas
Do not want (DNW):
Opt-ins:
Prompts:
Sally is my favorite InCryptid character and she deserves her own book. Does she keep a journal as she's adjusting to the bottle world, or does she write letters to James that she can't send? Likewise, after he loses her, does James write letters to Sally that he can't send? Does Sally journal as a coping mechanism as she readjusts to Earth?
I'd love to see more of the Aeslin mice's rituals. In addition to those, everyone in the Price-Healy family keeps scientific journals - I'd love to see those. Thomas also has magic journals, and journals from his time in the Covenant (mentioned in That Ain't Witchcraft). In addition to the journals themselves, I'd love to see Thomas and Alice's kids or grandkids reading their journals, or them reading each other's journals.
Thomas and Alice were separated from each other for fifty years - what do their unsent letters look like? What about the letters that Thomas was able to leave behind for Alice?
Fandom: OFMD
Epistolary Format: Journals and Diaries, Epistolary Format: Letters/Emails/Audio or Video Message Transcripts
Relationships: Jim/Oluwande, Jim/Oluwande/Archie, Jim & Nana
Do not want (DNW):
Opt-ins:
Prompts:
I'd love to see the requested characters' reactions if Zheng Yi Sao started dating Spanish Jackie, or Nana started dating Auntie.
For angst, I'd love Jim and Oluwande pining while they're separated (when Jim leaves or when Jim is on the Kraken's crew) - journaling, writing letters they can't send, writing letters in bottles, that sort of thing. Archie could support Jim while they pine. Alternately, Jim writing letters to Nana and not sending them, or writing letters to dead family members.
For the polycule (which can include Zheng Yi Sao and/or Spanish Jackie and her husbands, if you want), I think they'd probably be separated sometimes (maybe some of them retire while some of them stay pirates?), so I'd love to see them keeping in contact, either in canon or an AU.
Fandom: Good Omens TV [note: I'm familiar with the book & I'm fine with it if you incorporate things from the book, as long as Anathema stays Latina and the fic stays free of slurs]
Epistolary Format: Journals and Diaries Epistolary Format: Letters/Emails/Audio or Video Message Transcripts
Relationship: Anathema, Anathema & Agnes
Do not want (DNW):
Opt-ins:
unrequested crossovers
unrequested crossover characters
Good Omens characters portrayed unsympathetically
I would love to see Anathema's witchy journals and notes. She's so competent and it's very hard to find fanfics that are about her and her alone.
I'd also love to see a more personal journal. Pre-canon, maybe Anathema journals about the expectations her family and Agnes have of her, or about what's expected of her with Newt. Post-canon, maybe Anathema journals about her feelings after burning the second book, or her feelings about her memories of the apocalypse (if Adam took them, she probably wants them back; if Adam left them, she remembers something no one else does, which is hard in its own way). Maybe she writes letters to Agnes.
Anathema's very politically minded - I'd love to see her blog or YouTube channel.
I'd love to see more of Agnes's prophecies, or anything else that she writes - maybe a journal, or letters that Anathema receives at a future date.
Fandom: Wayward Children
Epistolary Format: Journals and Diaries, Epistolary Format: Letters/Emails/Audio or Video Message Transcripts
Relationship: Onishi Sumi & Kade West (Wayward Children - McGuire)
Do not want (DNW):
Opt-ins:
Prompts:
I'd love to see Kade's notes about Sumi & Confection, since he interviews all of the students. I'd also love to see them communicating about clothes that Sumi's commissioned from him.
Sumi essentially has three selves - her Nonsense surface self, her prophesied-hero self, and Sumiko. I'd love Kade noticing her shift personas, or seeing one of her masks slip.
For AUs, I'd love to see what would happen if they'd found different doors. What if Kade was born in Confection? What if Sumi's door opened to the Moors, or to Prism? She would have done well there, maybe too well.
Thanks again! Remember, optional details are optional. If you have any questions, anonymous comments are on.

Treats are welcome and appreciated. My AO3 preferences are set to allow gifted works.
Here's a list of some things that I really like reading about, in case you want to use it for inspiration. For some tropes that might be confusing, I've linked examples from my AO3 bookmarks.
- Unreliable narrator, outsider POV
- In-universe documents for humorous purposes (Bernice Summerfield example, Teen Titans example, The Good Place example)
- Secrets - Victorian era, spies & secret agents, closeted characters, makeup used as psychological armor
- Language tropes - lingua franca, universal translator broke/is imperfect, hiding behind the language barrier (TV Tropes page), pretending not to be fluent in a language for devious purposes
- Characters go to therapy, preferably from the therapist's perspective (especially if their experiences are weird enough for them to lie badly, or, if they tell the truth, for the therapist to get the wrong idea or be disbelieving/out of their depth; examples: Crowley goes to therapy, Aziraphale goes to therapy, Anathema goes to therapy)
- Logistics, extremely competent characters (Captain America example, Narnia example)
- Deeply engaging with the text to reinterpret it in unorthodox ways (ACD Holmes example, Sherlock Holmes in the 23rd Century example)
- Fluff tropes: Holidays, Animals, Cats, Hugs, Food
- Hair
- Nighttime
- Fire
- Pregnancy
- Witchcraft
- Religion (any), prayer, religious trauma
- Singing
- Time travel, time loops
- Gender euphoria, trans/nonbinary characters/headcanons, gender transition, femmes, butches/studs, genderbending (especially if the whole cast is genderbent), drag, femininity, makeup, clothes, hair
- Racial representation: Focus on characters of color, focus on characters' racial/cultural identities especially if difficult for them (mixed/assimilated characters, etc; DC example, DS9 example, Glee example), racebending (Sherlock Holmes example 1, Sherlock Holmes example 2), Jewish headcanons (Hunger Games example, X-Men example, original work example)
- Queer representation, including but not limited to: Aromantic-spectrum/asexual-spectrum characters/headcanons, trans/nonbinary characters/headcanons, lesbian/gay/bi/pan/etc characters/headcanons, intersex characters/headcanons, Two-Spirit characters/headcanons
- Dreams (Narnia example)
- Plural characters/headcanons
Some common DNWs that I'm okay with for this exchange are:
- Unrequested crossovers (exception: no crossovers with any franchise associated with JK Rowling, please)
- First person, first person plural, second person, third person
- Past tense, present tense, future tense
- Alternate Universe (including setting changes, like coffee shop AU)
- Menstruation, pregnancy, childbirth, miscarriage, abortion
- Any perspective on religion that is tolerant of others' beliefs
- UK/US/CA/NZ/AU/anywhere spelling/grammar
- Nonlinear narrative
- Polyamory, monogamy
- Past abuse/violence, including sexual abuse/violence, if not described and if condemned by the narrative
- Alternate universes where white characters are people of color, or where characters' genders are different (except for nonbinary characters; please don't change their genders), or where cis characters are trans
- Queer headcanons of any kind
- COVID-19 pandemic
Here's a list of things that I don't want for any request. Some requests have additional Do Not Wants that are listed in my signup.
- any rating other than General Audiences or Teen and Up
- kids or teens in romantic or sexual relationships with adults
- non-canon incest

Prompts:
I would love letters or diary entries from when Cimorene isolated herself to raise Daystar, because that's such a great opportunity for lots and lots of pining. Maybe they found a safe way to send letters, or maybe they didn't but they're taking the risk, or maybe the letters are unsent. Alternately, I'd love an AU where Morwen raised Daystar with Cimorene.

Relationship: James & Sally, Alice/Thomas
Do not want (DNW):
- any rating other than General Audiences or Teen and Up
- anything sad happening to non-cryptid animals (characters eating meat is okay if it's not dwelt on)
- anything sad happening to "cute" cryptids like Aeslin mice or tailypo, even if it's canon
- Covenant breeding program
- non-canon incest
- kids or teens in romantic or sexual relationships with adults
- focus on teen!Alice
- real-world slurs (even if historically-accurate)
Opt-ins:
- unrequested shipping that doesn't contradict DNWs
- unrequested characters
- unrequested crossovers

Relationships: Jim/Oluwande, Jim/Oluwande/Archie, Jim & Nana
Do not want (DNW):
- any rating other than General Audiences or Teen and Up
- anything sad happening to animals, even if it's canon-compliant or canon-typical (characters eating meat is okay if it's not dwelt on and the meat isn't rabbit)
- unrequested non-canon pairings
- focus on unrequested characters or pairings
- incest
- kids or teens in romantic or sexual relationships with adults
- illiterate Edward Teach
- real-world slurs, even if canon-typical/historically accurate
Opt-ins:
- unrequested characters
- unrequested crossovers
- any rating other than General Audiences or Teen and Up
- Anathema Device/Newt Pulsifer pairing
- unrequested Good Omens characters
- anything sad happening to animals
- incest
- kids or teens in romantic or sexual relationships with adults
- real-world slurs, even if canon-typical/historically accurate
Opt-ins:
unrequested crossovers
unrequested crossover characters
- any rating other than General Audiences or Teen and Up
- Sumi or Rini being overly/inappropriately sexual, even if canon-typical/canon-compliant
- anything sad happening to animals
- incest
- kids or teens in romantic or sexual relationships with adults
- real-world slurs
Opt-ins:
- unrequested characters
- unrequested crossovers
- any canon pairing
